My name is Mikaela DiGesu and I am going into my senior year at the University of New Hampshire. I have spent the last three years studying Economics and EcoGastronomy while integrating my majors into my extracurricular activities. I am the Vice President of the Organic Garden Club, an active member of Slow Food UNH, have been lucky enough to work on creating a Food Hub in Durham, NH, as well as being a Carsey Social Innovation Intern for New Hampshire Farm to Restaurant Connection last summer. This summer I have the amazing opportunity of studying abroad in Ascoli Piceno to learn more about the food culture that comprises half of my heritage.
My intentions with this blog are not only to have something to reminisce on when thinking about my time in Italy, but also to think more critically about my time spent here and about the agricultural and cultural phenomena in this food system. On this journey through Italy, I hope to gain the knowledge I need to further my career. Eventually I would like to go into the wine industry. I would like to start off in production (hopefully working in Italy) and continue on in sales. I hope that my travels will help to fully immerse myself in the wonderful wine and food culture that Italy has to offer!
